Crimson and Sabres

A History of Confederate Families in Forsyth County, Georgia

Crimson and Sabres, a History of Confederate Families in Forsyth County, Georgia

This book is the first Confederate record published on Forsyh County's Confederate soldiers, veterans, pensioners, and widows. Among the detailed records is a 130-page chapter of abstracts for almost 600 indigent pensioners, a little-known genealogical source. Another chapter documents all ex-Confederate soldiers whose gravesites have a Confederate marker, including photos of markers, in 23 cemeteries, plus an alphabetical listing in 54 cemeteries of all males who were old enough to have served in the Confederate Army, with their regiment and company given in most cases. In addition, this volume carries the 1863 "Joe Brown Census," rosters for State Troops, militia cavalry, and other country units never before published. Crimson and Sabres was compiled, written, and edited by Don L. Shadburn with Ted O. Brooke.
